German rental company HKL Baumaschinen is offering battery energy storage systems for rental and sale nationally through a partnership with power specialist MobilHybrid.

The MobilHybrid systems – the MH-36 unit is shown on HKL’s website - can be used as grid boosters, alongside diesel generators, or in combination with solar panels.

MobilHybrid, which is based in Augsburg, close to Munich in Bavaria, said the units can reduce diesel consumption, generator runtime and associated emissions by up to 70%.

The manufacturer said its BESS units use non-lithium-based battery technology, which makes them exempt from ADR regulations on transport and also robust for use on construction sites.

“The energy storage systems can be transported between different construction sites without the hazardous goods transport regulations that apply to many lithium battery systems”, said MobilHybrid.

“This simplifies logistics, reduces organizational effort, and enables flexible deployment. ”

The supplier said customers can rent the units on a project-specific basis, test them under real construction site conditions, or purchase directly .

MobilHybrid said it had also recently “significantly increased” the performance of its BESS units while keeping prices the same.

The existing MH36 is now known as the MH-45, increasing the available power. In addition, the efficiency of the unit has been increased, with energy consumption during normal operation reduced by more than 50%, meaning that a larger proportion of the stored energy is available.

MobilHybrid was founded in 2016 and has been selling internationally since 2022, with more than 200 BESS units in service.
