Hitachi to open Landcros R&D center in Europe

The new entity, Landcros Development Center Europe GmbH, will be a wholly owned subsidiary and will begin operations on 1 January 2026.

The new centre forms part of Hitachi’s strategy to expand its development capabilities for battery-powered excavators, ICT-enabled machinery and digital solutions.

It is also the first new entity to use the Landcros name since the group announced its wider brand transition plan in October.

Hitachi said Europe’s role as a leader in environmental regulation and advanced construction technology was a key factor in the decision.

Francesco Quaranta, Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) President and CEO, said, ”Establishing Landcros Development Center Europe strengthens our commitment to working closely with European partners and leveraging the region’s leadership in sustainability and technology.

“This new hub will enable us to co-create next-generation solutions that meet local needs while driving global progress in zero-emission and digital construction machinery.” 

The announcement also marks a clearer division of responsibilities between Hitachi and KTEG GmbH, the company’s joint venture with Kiesel Technology GmbH.

While KTEG will continue to focus on specialised application products for the European market, the new subsidiary will take responsibility for developing battery-powered excavators and ICT-compatible equipment in line with Hitachi’s global roadmap.

Hitachi plans to recruit around 100 developers for the new organisation and said the centre will operate as part of a wider global development network alongside existing hubs in Japan and India.
