Spain-based genset manufacturer Himoinsa has opened a Chilean subsidiary to cater to the country’s growing and evolving temporary power demands.

Himoinsa, which became part of the Yanmar group in 2015, said that in its first phase, Himoinsa Chile will focus its business model on temporary power - renting out gensets to business customers.

Going forward, however, the company plans to operate under a mixed rental and sales model, proving gensets to sectors such as mining, agro-industry, public services, the salmon industry and ports.

The company, which already has 15 subsidiaries worldwide, said the move was part of its international expansion strategy. Himoinsa already operates in Latin America through its commercial offices and production centres in Argentina, Brazil, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

Chile’s regulatory framework is moving towards raising its environmental requirements in line with the European Stage V standard. Himoinsa said that, its extensive experience in sustainable power solutions, both in Europe with Stage V models and in the United States with the Tier 4 product line, meant that it would be able to position itself a strategic partner to businesses in the Chilean market.

Himoinsa Chile will be led by managing director Carlos Castro, who has led strategic projects in the power sector for the last 25 years, holding positions of responsibility at Cummins, Energyst Cat Rental Power and Aggreko.

“This is a constantly growing market in which we have supplied equipment for major projects over the last few decades. With a market size of around 10,000 units per year, Chile is experiencing a progressive increase in power demand, so our presence in the country will help us to offer tailor-made solutions, strengthen local support and speed up customer responses,” said Gabriel Gallino, LATAM region head for Himoinsa.
