Hewden receives fifth health and safety 'gold'

06 September 2013

UK plant hire firm Hewden has achieved gold in the 2013 Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards. The accolade makes Hewden the first plant rental company to achieve gold for five years in a row.

“We put a lot of emphasis on creating a health and safety culture within the business, this covers both our workforce and the customers who use our products”, said Mark Albiston, operations excellence director at Hewden, “Recognition from a respected body such as RoSPA is real testimony to this ongoing commitment.”

Hewden created an internal campaign, ‘Top X Risk Management’, to ensure risks are identified and managed across its network of 35 depots. Any employee can identify ‘Top X Risks’ and a plan to control these risks will be created by the firm’s health & safety team within six days.

The company also holds regular Toolbox Talks and daily team briefings to ensure all staff understand safe behaviour.

Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas.
