Generator Power accelerates operations with cloud-based platform

UK generator rental company Generator Power has implemented a paperless work management platform to make its logistics, engineering and back office operations more transparent and efficient.
Generator Power is based in West Yorkshire and has depots across England, Scotland and Wales. It supplies generators from 10 kVA (10,000 volt-amps) to 1250 kVA with around 2,500 units stocked, and manages a fleet of 50 HGVs and 100 service vehicles.
Michael Yeadon, Operations Manager at Generator Power, said the implementation of the cloud-based BigChange was part of the company’s transition to automatic scheduling and real time reporting.
BigChange will remove complex documentation required for certification, compliance and purposes in delivering units, and will connect Generator Power’s depots across the UK, enabling units to delivered to site from the most conveniently located depot. It will also aid Generator Power engineers with access to electronic documents such as instruction manuals, risk assessments and previous worksheets.
The platform also supports back office functions including invoicing.
“Managing a mobile operation of this size and this complexity can be very resource hungry and time consuming,” said Yeadon. “Prior to implementing BigChange this centred on whiteboards and paperwork with logistical planning on spreadsheets and post-it notes. Engineers were in charge of their own schedules and routes and, whilst our vehicle tracking told us where our drivers were and where they had been, we had no visibility of where they were going next.”
Generator Power staff will use the BigChange app, which replaces paperwork and synchronises in real-time with centralised management software.
Yeadon said BigChange would accelerate the company’s workflow from initial logging of an enquiry, job scheduling and issuing of worksheets through to real time reporting and invoicing, making it easier and more efficient to service customers.
