GAP adopts UK emissions compliance scheme

GAP Hire Solutions, one of the UK’s largest privately owned rental companies, is adopting the UK’s CESAR ECV (Emissions Compliance Verification) scheme for operated equipment in its fleet.

CESAR ECV uses colour coded labels with a QR code to provide equipment users with information on a machine’s engine emissions, helping them comply with emission limits on construction sites.

GAP has been fitting the labels to all new ride-on plant purchased since October 2020.

The scheme is run by the UK’s Construction Equipment Association (CEA) using technology from Datatag. ECV is an add-on to the CESAR anti-theft system which has been running for more than a decade.

CESAR ECV uses colour coded labels for reference.

GAP is installing CESAR ECV on its fleet across all its UK locations as part of its goal to be net-zero by 2040.

The company says the move will also help its customers reduce their environmental impact and is in line with the emergence of Low Emission Zones and ‘green’ construction sites.

GAP described CESAR ECV as “a fantastic asset to companies that are required to complete large scale projects and manage multiple contractors in ensuring the plant used on site is as clean as possible.”

“Site staff rely heavily on plant hire companies to provide information on a machine before work commences onsite. Without ECV, this is difficult to keep track of throughout a project.

“With ECV, the mix of the easy-to read, identify and scan colour coded label and a secure database on the machine’s vital information makes this task much easier.”

GAP also recently announced that its rental fleet is now HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) compatible, while other recent net-zero 2040 initiatives include going paperfree by digitalising its rental operations.
