ERA makes 2025 rental market forecast

The European Rental Association (ERA) is forecasting rental market growth of just 1.0% in Europe this year, a moderate decline from the estimated 1.3% growth in 2024.

The association’s 2025 Market Report – which it produces with KPMG - estimates that the European equipment rental market was valued at €33.5 billion in 2024, rising to a forecast €33.9 billion this year.

ERA said; “Overall, the expected rebound in the European rental market did not materialise in 2025 with the desired intensity.

“The general uncertainty across Europe, along with political instability in certain countries — such as France, Germany, and Belgium — has not created the conditions necessary for the release of the expected public funds. Furthermore, general uncertainty slowed private financing and the recovery of the building segment.”

Even so, said ERA, in most countries the market was “slightly more favourable” in 2025 than it had been in 2024, with the exception of the UK, France and Belgium.

The report covers 17 countries, representing more than 95% of the rental industry in the EU, ‎EFTA and the UK‎. The UK, Germany and France remain the largest rental markets in Europe, now accounting for almost 60% of the total. The report uses a common methodology ‎to analyse the 17 European markets.

The report is free to ERA members, including rental companies who have joined any of the national rental associations that are members of the ERA. (The full listing of members, including associations, can be found at www.erarental.org.) Non-members can buy the report for €1,500.
