A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Simpson previously worked for the Health and Safety Executive – the UK government agency for the regulation and enforcement of workplace health and safety – as a principal specialist inspector.

The CPA said that during Simpson’s 40 years of experience he served on numerous British Standards Institute (BSI) committees, including the MHE3/11 Crane Safety Committee, which was responsible for the BS7121 Crane Safety standards.
