Caterpillar has signed a five year agreement for international power rental projects with APac Energy Rentals, the Singapore-based power rental company co-owned by Cat dealers in Asia Pacific.

APac has offices in Singapore, Perth (Australia), Hong Kong, Manila (Philippines) and Shanghai (China) and is jointly owned by five Cat dealers: Tractors Singapore, Trakindo (Indonesia), Lei Shing Hong Machinery (China/Taiwan); Energy Power Systems (Australia) and Westrac China.

As part of the agreement, APac will offer "readily available, competitively priced" power equipment from Caterpillar supported by Cat dealers in the region. It will focus on the Asia Pacific region, where it has already completed contracts in Japan and Australia, but will also target global power projects.

"The Cat brand is well-known and respected worldwide," said Shaun Cockman, APac's chief executive officer, "This agreement is the beginning of a new growth strategy for APac, leveraging our coverage in Asia Pacific, Caterpillar's world class products and the support of the Cat dealer network."

For caterpillar, the agreement with APac is just one of several that it has entered for the IPP market, with similar deals announced over the past two years with Netherlands-based Energyst and two Florida-based companies, APR Energy and Energy International.

"APac is an excellent partner for Caterpillar as we work to grow our international power projects business," said Bill Rohner, vice president of electric power at Caterpillar. "APac's experience in Asia Pacific along with Caterpillar's engineering and product expertise will enable us to better serve our customers and enable us to attain a leadership position in the IPP market."
