BMS' new Palfinger Platforms WT1000

Denmark-based rental company BMS claims it is now the world’s largest supplier of truck mounts above 100 m working height, following its investment in five new machines.

The tallest of its new models is a Palfinger Platforms WT1000, with a 103 m working height. The platform is equipped with a jib and a 4 m basket with a capacity of 530 kg.

With a total length of 16 m, the platform is mounted on a Faun five-axle chassis of which four are steerable. BMS said the WT1000 was suitable for unstable ground thanks to its 60 tonne gross weight, 10 x 8 axle configuration and crab steering.

“The mobility and flexibility of the all terrain chassis mean that the platforms in the upper class, with a working height of 90 – 103 m, can be used for a variety of jobs in any climate, such as installation and maintenance tasks at wind farms and chemical plants, and on masts and high-rise buildings,” explained Stephan Kulawik, CEO of Palfinger Platforms.

The WT1000 is approved for driving on roads across Europe and is equipped with a 530 HP Mercedes engine, and has a top speed of 85 km/h.

“We are seeing significant demand for large truck mounted platforms all over Europe,” commented Ib Steffensen, head of BMS’ crane department. “Our customers are typically involved in projects in the energy sector or telecommunications, and our large truck-mounted platforms are often pretty much the only solution when it comes to the erection or repair of wind turbines and masts.”
