Atlas Copco TwinPower gensets in Saudi desert project

11 March 2021

Four QAC 1100 TwinPower generators from Atlas Copco have been installed at desert factory in Saudi Arabia.

Supplied by GCC Olayan, Atlas Copco Power and Flow’s official distributor in Saudi Arabia, the gensets were required for Jasmine Water and Beverages Factory, which is located in the desert 120km west of Riyadh.

Atlas Copco Power and Flow said the gensets were suited to the factory’s remote desert location in the desert, which lacks access to stable power grid. Prior to the gensets’ installation, the factory was facing frequent power failures, causing interruptions to its production line.

The TwinPower is a containerised portable generator that Atlas Copco claims delivers twice the on-site power of conventional Independent Power Plants (IPPS).

It houses two compact 500 kVA generators; powered by compact Scania engines, and is configured to allow the two generators to work independently or in parallel with each other. The PMS (Power Management System) mode is designed to enable efficient fuel usage.

The TwinPower has a centralised control and monitoring system, with two Qc4003 digital controllers featuring intuitive touchscreens, and a choice of island or PMS (Power Management System) modes.

Ahmed Badawi, Regional Sales and Marketing Manager – Power and Light, said, “The QAC 1100 TwinPower is perfect for applications that require intensive use because it delivers high performance while maximising fuel efficiency, cutting associated running costs, and low-cost of ownership, amongst other benefits.”

“Also, thanks to its flexible design of two generators in one platform, it gives our client flexibility and the QAC 1100 generator works in the harshest conditions, such as a very hot climate in a Saudi desert.”

Ashraf El-Nahas, Factory General Manager - Jasmine Water and Beverages Factory, said the Atlas Copco QAC 1100 TwinPower “provides us with the reliable power supply that our production line needed to run 24/7 without cuts while offering us the best fuel optimisation for our plant.”

Key features of Atlas Copco TwinPower gensets include large access doors and custom service tools, with motor and alternator sets positioned on opposite sides to allow multiple access points to all the main components.

TwinPower is available for rental and and has been rented out for a number of remote projects to date.
