Aggreko wins Thames Water contract in London

Aggreko has won a contract to provide back-up power during the construction of extension of the Thames Water Sewage Treatment Works at Beckton, east London.

Aggreko will supply 8 MVA of power as back-up to the mains supply during the project. The £190 million extension is being built by Tamesis, a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and Imtech.

The project comprises the construction of a 7 km overflow tunnel and associated works to accommodate a 60% increase in processing capacity at Beckton. The facility is one of Europe’s largest sewage treatment works, serving 3.5 million people. The upgrade is due for completion in 2014.

Ben Vincent, national accounts manager for Aggreko, said: “Aggreko’s proven experience and expertise in successfully delivering multi-megawatt temporary power packages was a significant factor in Tamesis and Thames Water entrusting us to deliver this project."
