Aggreko invests in Net Zero upgrade at Scottish facility

15 January 2021

Aggreko has announced a £4.5million (€5 million) upgrade of its production facility in Dumbarton, Scotland.

The transformation is part of Aggreko’s commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions from its own operations by 2030.

Construction began in November on the £4.5million (€5 million) upgrade to Aggreko’s facility in Dumbarton, Scotland

Aggreko’s Lomondgate (Dumbarton) site develops modular power, storage and temperature control solutions used in sectors including construction, utilities, mining, and events.

The Glasgow-headquartered company is investing £4.5million (€5 million) to turn the site into “a future energy hub” including “a campus environment which will add a state-of-the-art rental depot to the existing manufacturing site.”

The upgraded facility will replace all diesel with low-emission HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and export surplus power generated during production tests of Next Generation Gas gensets back to the national grid.

Smart battery storage systems and LED lighting systems will also be used to make energy use at the facility more efficient. Installation of EV charging sites will support decarbonisation of Aggreko’s vehicle fleet.

Office space at the site will be redesigned to provide a modern working environment for 300 staff previously accommodated across three locations. The scheme entailed the acquisition of land at Lomondgate Park next to the existing site, which is owned by Strathleven Regeneration CIC (SRCIC).

Aine Finlayson, Director of Manufacturing at Aggreko, said, “Our Dumbarton facility sits at the heart of everything we do around the world, and is driven by the amazing team of people who work there. This investment is a demonstration of our commitment to our team and the local area, and making sure that we’re continuing to produce the high-quality, reliable and greener products that our customers expect.”

“We continue to look for ways to enhance the value that the site brings to the business and the local community. Scotland is on an exciting journey towards Net Zero and we want to be part of that.”

Construction on the scheme started in November 2020.
