Loxam has signed up to SmartEquip’s equipment service and parts procurement system, making it the largest rental user in Europe.

Implementation will start in France in the Autumn and the technology will then be expanded to Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

The deal means that SmartEquip is now being used by the five largest general equipment rental companies in the world – United Rentals, Sunbelt Rentals, Aktio, Loxam and Herc.

Loxam joins Boels Rental and Zeppelin Rental as major SmartEquip customers in Europe.

The platform will connect suppliers directly with the parts and service operations of Loxam’s locations. Suppliers will provide real-time support and receive electronic orders for parts and other items, while Loxam aims to benefit from technician time savings, procurement efficiencies, and increased equipment uptime.

“SmartEquip’s platform represents a natural fit with Loxam’s current digitisation initiatives,” said Thierry Lahuppe, Loxam Equipment Director.

“The solution’s combined approach to electronic spare parts procurement, digital service technician support, and to reducing equipment downtime, represents large opportunities for lifecycle efficiency improvements and enhanced profitability.”

Alexander Schuessler, SmartEquip’s founder and President of its international group, said he was delighted to welcome Loxam to the network and said the companies would “work together in creating a broad set of equipment lifecycle efficiencies.”

He added; “And while Loxam’s equipment base is diverse and covers a wide geographic footprint, many of the company’s suppliers are already part of the global SmartEquip Network and are eager to further expand their use of the platform with this implementation.”

SmartEquip, which is part of Ritchie Bros, is used by approximately 100 rental fleets and more than 650 suppliers in North America, Europe, and Japan. The largest five rental companies alone represent annual rental revenues of around €20 billion.

The platform has more than 95,000 users at 42,000 equipment locations globally and supports parts transactions valued at over US$1 billion annually.
