Genie Academy goes live in UK

Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP) has started the Genie Academy apprenticeship programme in the UK.

The programme aims to support the current skills shortage with a new generation of qualified service engineers trained to industry-leading standards.

Selected among 36 candidates from colleges UK-wide, teenagers Bradley Mason and William Marshall are the first apprentice field technicians to benefit from the Genie Academy as part of their three-year National Vocational Qualification Level 2 Apprenticeship course in plant maintenance. The Academy plans to recruit two new candidates every two years.

“We are proud and excited about the prospects of the Genie Academy that will provide our customers the high level of field support that their return on investment relies on,” said Matt Skipworth, service solutions manager, Terex AWP and leader of the Genie Academy initiative. “In a sector where safety features and technology are increasingly complex and high level technical expertise is under growing demand, we are also delighted to offer candidates an opportunity to secure employment.”

During their time with Terex AWP, Mason and Marshall will be working in the company’s technical services department under the guidance of its field service engineers. Their Genie Academy Mentor is Dave Stretch, mobile technical trainer, Terex AWP, UK & Ireland.
