Carrier Rental expands cooling equipment range

Temperature control rental specialist Carrier Rental Systems UK (CRS) has expanded its product range with a fleet of very low temperature (VLT) cooling systems.

The new VLT units are designed for customers in the chemical, power generation, pharmaceutical and food sectors. 

The VLT fleet includes dry coolers, low temperature air handlings units (AHUs) and chillers, with the latter said to offer temperatures as low as -45°C.

CRS told IRN that its new chillers use the environmentally sustainable R-449A refrigerant liquid in a two-circuit cooling system.

The primary circuit inside the chillers contains the non-ozone depleting R-449A refrigeration liquid. This is linked, via a temperature differential, to a secondary circuit that contains glycol (an industrial alcohol used to make antifreeze that is particularly suitable for use in the food sector).

According to CRS - part of the American multinational firm Carrier Global Corporation - its new chillers have a GWP (Global Warming Potential) of 1282. This is said to be 67% lower than units that use other types of working liquids, such as the outgoing R-404A and R-507 refrigerants.

White said, “With our project management and logistics expertise, the new VLT fleet provides a turnkey service for food distribution centres, where a suite of interlocking services are required to maintain continuity of cooling to protect high-value stock, irrespective of swings in ambient conditions.”

The chillers, which are also said to be 12% more energy efficient that similar units that use the outgoing refrigerants, are also paired with high-efficiency, inverter-driven VLT pumps.

According to the company, they incorporate “high-performance bearings and seals to handle low temperature fluids” and each unit is built inside a crash-frame for pallet shipping.
