Terex is to launch the ASV tracked loaders in Europe before the end of 2008.

Terex Corp aims to be selling at least three of the recently acquired ASV tracked loaders in Europe by the end of the year. The PT-30, PT-60 and PT-80 models will be available first, followed by the PT-50 and also the largest PT-100 model (pictured).

The ASV loaders are sold mainly in North America, and are also well known in the Middle East and Australia, but has not so far been marketed in Europe.

Mark Raymond (pictured), previously the Terex global product manager for backhoes who is now in charge of developing the Terex ASV business worldwide, told IRN at the UK’s SED show that the 30, 60 and 80 models had already been adapted for the European market, with modifications including noise reductions and the addition of a system to return the loader arm to the ground in the event of a power failure.

“Eventually the entire range will be here [in Europe]”, Mr Raymond told IRN, “We were just trying to gauge the market [during SED]”. Terex initially thought that the largest model, the 4.5 t PT-100, would be too big for Europe, but Mr Raymond said the positive reaction during SED – in particular from forestry contractors – was likely to change that view.

Mr Raymond said the first three available models would appeal to rental companies, especially the compact PT-30; “It will be great for landscapers and small contractors. For rental companies it will be attractive for DIY rental as well as construction.” The PT-30 weighs 1500 kg, making it easy to tow.

The tracked loader market is still a relatively modest one in Europe, accounting for approximately 15% of skid steer sales in the UK, for example, compared to nearer 50/50 in North America. “That 15% is growing”, said Mr Raymond, “I think we will follow the US trend.”
