Genquip Launches Clean Site Products

GenQuip in the UK has developed a portable site accommodation unit powered by an emissions-free fuel cell, and is also introducing a portable toilet fitted with a diesel-powered incinerator that eliminates the need for site visits to remove effluent.

The GP420 Groundhog welfare unit incorporates a Voller Energy fuel cell that will run on hydrogen. The hydrogen is produced by ‘cracking’ LPG fuel supplied from a 19 kg canister fitted into the cabin. The unit will operate for around seven days on a single canister of LPG, and the only emission from the fuel cell is water.

The use of the fuel cell removes the need to have a 6 kVA diesel engine fitted to the cabin, and dramatically reduces fuel and servicing costs, as well as noise levels. The unit will be in production in 2008.

The incinerator toilet, meanwhile, works by flushing waste material through a macerator pump to a combustion chamber which incinerates the effluent, producing only an odorless gas. The incinerator technology was developed by US company ECIS.

GenQuip-which has close links to GenSet plc, the UK power, lighting and pumping sales company-said the system will be of enormous benefit to contractors who currently have to pay for service vans to empty their chemical toilets. Some toilets require up to three service visits a week.

Portable toilet rental companies are also likely to be interested in the concept; one Groundhog fitted with the system was shown at the recent SED show in the UK in the colours of accommodation and toilet rental company Elliotthire.
