Weber MT celebrates 70 years of history

When Günther Weber, a mason by trade, decided in 1952 to start his own business and establish a construction tool dealership in his hometown, he had no idea that this small start-up would turn into a company that is now a household name in the industry.

A few years after opening his business, he received a request from a customer for a vibrating board that needed to be sized to fit. Realizing that he could not offer a suitable product, he began experimenting with the engineering of his own products.

The first model he developed was a vibrating plate that he called the WVP 450. This was the final leap to manufacturing.

Today, Weber MT (Weber Maschinentechnik GmbH) sees itself as an expert in hand-guided soil compaction equipment. In Europe, the company is one of the market leaders. Reason enough to look back at 70 years of history.

The rise to global player status

The expansion of the product range combined with numerous technological innovations and patents paved the way for the company’s current scale. One example is the invention of the WEFIX gear lever, which has also made it possible to operate lighter vibratory plates with forward and backward travel.

In the 1970s, Weber manufactured reversible soil compactors for large well-known machine manufacturers who wanted to complement their product portfolio.

This led Weber MT to increase its focus on international markets and, in addition to expanding its exports, the company also established subsidiaries in countries such as France, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil and the Czech Republic.

Today, almost 60% of sales are generated outside Germany, with the United States being the largest market. “The goals we set ourselves are ambitious,” says sales manager Katharina Weber (third generation), outlining the company’s future. “Our passion for technology and our standard of offering only the highest quality form a solid foundation for sustained growth.”

“Our target is numerous markets in Europe, South America and, above all, in the USA. These are the markets in which we intend to grow and strengthen our position.”
