Wacker Neuson to share battery with Bomag

Cooperation opens up broader range of electrically-powered construction equipment to customers

The rechargeable battery developed by German equipment manufacturer Wacker Neuson will now be compatible with rammers made by its cooperation partner, Bomag.

The move will give customers a broader range of electrically-powered options on site, promising both cost savings and reductions in CO2 emissions.

Also, companies operating both brands of equipment will no longer have to incorporate separate charging systems.

The modular design of the Wacker Neuson batteries already allows them to be used across its rammers and vibratory plates, but the company says the agreement with Bomag takes its ‘one for all’ concept to the next level.

To this end, Wacker Neuson says the same battery will in future be compatible with construction equipment manufactured by Bomag.

On the question of why Wacker Neuson would make its technology available to a competitor, Stefan Pfetsch, managing director of the Wacker Neuson production site in Reichertshofen  the company’s competence center for compaction - said, “Our interchangeable battery has the potential to power a wide range of construction equipment.

“By enabling another manufacturer to use our battery, we are further accelerating the adoption of emissions-free construction equipment and underscoring Wacker Neuson’s commitment to fast-tracking carbon reductions.”

Ralf Junker, President of the Bomag Group, said, “Through our cooperation with Wacker Neuson, we are leveraging the experience of two innovative equipment manufacturers to offer our customers practical added value through the use of zero emission construction equipment. This is the next strategic step for us in expanding our product range.

“It also acts as a key stimulus for the entire industry in our efforts to drive the development of sustainable products with the highest customer benefit. As a result of the cooperation, Bomag will launch the first battery-powered tamper in September this year – further products are at an advanced stage of development.”
