GTAccess, the UK powered access rental company, has acquired fellow rental business Neon Hire Services.

Bedfordshire-based Neon Hire, which has an equipment that includes 500 access platforms and 200 push around units, employs 35 staff across five depots.

The value of the acquisition was not disclosed, but GTAccess said the “multi-million pound” deal would make it the largest independently owned powered access rental firm in the country. GTAccess will now have 12 depots, a fleet of almost 2,700 machines, and a staff of over 140.

Neon Lane, managing director of Neon Hire Services, said, “This is great news for our customers as we can now offer them the same levels of service over a much wider geographical area.

“It will also secure the future for the dedicated staff at Neon Hire who have made the company what it is today.”

The firm will take over Neon’s depots in Luton, Peterborough, Brentwood, Central London and a sub depot at the NEC in Birmingham.  It said it expects Neon’s existing customers to be unaffected by the transition.

GTAccess said the addition of the new facilities would “fill the gap” between its existing depots in the southern county of East Sussex and the Midlands region.

Jonathan Till, managing director at GTAccess, said, “This acquisition will strengthen our powered access offering across southern England and will help us to continue our ambitious growth strategy.”

The company’s continuing execution of the strategy has also seen it increase its investment in Trackunit’s access control and machine telematics technology.

It recently purchased a further 180 systems so that it could make its GTA Secure option - which lets customers restrict the use of their machines to specific users - available on over 50% of its 1,500-strong equipment fleet.
