APR installs 120MW in 30 days

06 December 2018

Just 30 days after signing the contract APR Energy and installed and commissioned a temporary 120MW power plant in the Dominican Republic, for client AES Dominicana.

The plant, which is fueled by natural gas, comprises four GE TM2500 mobile gas turbines that connect to the AES Andres Energy Complex, providing supplementary power to the local grid.

The installation was required because of an unexpected power outage. AES Dominicana brought a portion of its plant back online but still required additional power to bring it back to capacity.

“When power grids suffer large-scale interruptions, speed-to-recovery becomes equally as critical as the reliability of the power being generated,” said John Campion, Chairman, APR Energy.

“There’s no time to waste when the unexpected occurs. Our team’s ability to work in partnership with the customer to assess power needs, develop customized solutions and generate power rapidly is unparalleled in the industry.”

Edwin De los Santos, President of AES Dominicana, said he was greatly satisfied with the installation; ”Once installed, and after completing the testing period, these units will make AES Andres total capacity reach 255MW, in a time of the year that is so important for everyone: the Christmas season.”

APR Energy specialises in providing supplementary power following natural disasters and major service outages. It has recently provided power to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, and in Mexico after one of the largest earthquakes in recorded history.
